There are more than 3000 species of lizards thoughout the world. Most have a protective covering of scales, eat animals for food (including insects and bugs) and lay eggs. They live in a variety of habitats, from desert terrain to forests and grasslands and mountains. They can be long and short, thin and chubby, smooth or scaly, colorful or drab. Some are venomous.
