In 1874 paleontologist O. C. Marsh found a skeleton of a dinosaur that he named Brontosaurus. It was one of the most complete fossilized remains of a dinosaur ever found up to that date. There was only one problem. The dinosaur didn't have a head. To solve the problem, Marsh used the head of another dinosaur found in the same area. The error was discovered in 1903. Brontosaurus was not a new species at all, it was actually the Apatosaurus, once the correct head was used. It wasn't until 1974 that the name "Brontosaurus" was removed from the records of paleontology.
