Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are the fastest animals on the face of the Earth. They are slender, long-legged carnivores of the family Felidae. They are very unusual and are doglike in appearance, have a barking howl call and their claws are not retractable like other cats. They can reach a length of from 3 to 4 feet, not including the tail. They stand about 2-1/2 feet at the shoulder and weigh around 100 pounds.

Cheetah's hunt alone or in small groups, stalking their prey, usually the smaller antelopes. They live in open country from southern Asia to Africa. They can run as fast as 70 miles per hour for short distances. In India they are trained as hunters.
