The name Tyrannosaurus (tie-RAN-oh-SAW-rus) means Tyrant Lizard. T-Rex was a theropod and a carnivore (meat-eater.) He was 46 feet long, 16 feet tall and weighed 5 tons. Fossilized skeletal remains have been found in the USA, Canada and Mongolia. T-Rex lived during the late Cretaceous period. Tyrannosaurus was the largest of the theropods, also known as "lizard-hipped" dinosaurs. It was a huge beast, walking about on two legs with a powerful tail and large head. It had small arms. Its mouth was full of long, curved teeth, some longer than 6 inches. It is believed that Tyrannosaurus was not able to chew, therefore it had to swallow its food whole. Fossilized skeletal remains have been found in the USA, Canada and Mongolia. Palaeontologist Barnum Brown discovered the first almost complete Tyrannosaurus skeleton in Hell Creek, Montana, in the USA in 1902.
